January 1992 marked an important milestone in the history of the Society with the staging of the 2nd National Philatelic Exhibition in Peshawar. Held on a considerably larger scale than the inaugural exhibition of 1990, the event reflected the growing enthusiasm for philately across the country.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Mr. Amir Nawaz Khan, Director General of the Pakistan Post Office Department, who personally attended the opening ceremony on a chilly and dry morning in Peshawar.
More than 100 exhibits, submitted by eminent philatelists from across Pakistan, were displayed in three competitive classes. Alongside these outstanding collections, the exhibition also featured a Junior Section, in which teenage students from approximately 40 local schools participated, providing an encouraging glimpse into the future of philately.
The Pakistan Post Office Department participated with even greater enthusiasm than before. In addition to establishing a special philatelic counter at the exhibition, the Department issued four special postmarks, one for each day of the exhibition, adding a distinctive philatelic dimension to the occasion.
Sadly, soon after the successful conclusion of the exhibition, the Society suffered the tragic loss of two of its most active members, Mr. Iftikhar A. Kazi and Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Chudary, the latter having served as Chairman of the recently concluded exhibition.
In their memory, and in recognition of their valuable contributions to the Society and to philately, the Society soon resolved to dedicate its next exhibition to their cherished memory.
